DIY GPS tracking with Mologogo
Get a cheap $39.00 USD pre-paid boost mobile phone at Best Buy, register on the Mologogo site, download a Java app and you’re pretty much done. The phone will transmit your position to their server (Uses Rails, Linux, Google Maps) and you and your friends can view where you are at – in real time. I’ve hacked up tons of solutions to do the same thing, and this is simplest and cheapest (pretty much free as in beer, if you have the phone, or $39.00 USD if you go pre-paid + 0.19 cents per day).
- Download and install Mologogo on your Nextel or Windows Mobile 5 ppc/smartphone or gps-enabled Blackberry
- If you don’t have a compatible phone you can get an inexpensive “tracking” phone directly from us
- Add an image to your Profile
- Add detail to your Profile with tags
- Make your data more accurate by setting your Timezone
- Show your points on the mologogo homepage by becoming a Public User
- Search for friends and share your location with them
- Add your favorite locations and tag them
- Buy a tracking phone for your favorite friend, brother, daughter, co-worker, elephant or fan
